DLL, I do not see Christianity is the worst possible light, at all. In fact, there is a Methodist church in San Francisco, Glide Memorial, that I sometimes attend. I have enormous respect for Jesus' teachings as I understand them. I think all organized religions can be extremely dangerous as political movements, although they offer comfort to individuals. At the same time, I notice frequently over here that there is an assumption that if it's Christian, it must be good, and that all other religious beliefs are incorrect, or even Satanic. That is very unfair. And it is impossible to study history and not come to the conclusion that in the Inquisition, the Crusades, and the Holocaust, millions of people were slaughtered in Christ's name. Who are you to decide who is Christian, and who is not? The fact is that some of the worst, and best, people in history have been Christian. I am arguing that ultimately religious belief systems are not as significant as other factors in determining how a person turns out, not that all Christians are evil. It seems very unfair that you would twist my words like that. It also seems unfair to blame all the evils of history on the pagans, and lump Hitler in with them, since he was Catholic, and believed God was guiding him. I am arguing for fairness, not demonizing Christianity, except where the truth of history makes that factually accurate. The world is not all black and white, DLL. It is all a very messed up, murky gray. But the Christians over here would make it seem like they are in light, and everyone else is in darkness. That is emphatically untrue. I am simply trying to provide a little balance, and reality.
