Jerry dear, forget the rumor it's now on the tape. Is Dow Jones good enough source for you?

-- =Dell/IBM-2: Companies Not Available For Comment >DELL IBM --

NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--Dell Computer Corp. (DELL) shares dipped Friday after an
unsubstantiated rumor circulated that International Business Machines Corp.
(IBM) had taken over an account at Boeing Co. (BA).
Gary Helmig, an IBM analyst at SoundView Financial Group Inc., said he had
heard the rumor, but not confirmed it; another market source said the same.
The rumor was wending its way through Internet chat rooms Friday afternoon.
One Wall Street investor said the contract actually switched months ago, and
that talk had merely resurfaced in the market Friday.
Calls to Boeing and Dell were not returned immediately. An IBM spokeman
referred the call to someone else in the company who wasn't available.
Dell shares were recently trading down 1 1/4, or 1.5%, at 83 1/4. IBM shares
were up 3/4, or 0.6%, to 116 13/16.
