On the other hand, don't you think the PC could become more fragmented? Certain tasks for certain PCs?

Grove's vision is that a PC (or network) will be the center of your home, controlling everything.

Personally, I believe that the future evolution of the market will only look obvious in retrospect.

I agree that the PC market is becoming fragmented, on a user-type basis. That is why Intel restructured their business along those lines.

The $1000 computer line, however, is going to be the starter computer which will be good for now. When the new software comes out, over the next two years, it'll only be good as a doorstop.

A $2000-$3000 computer will still have a 5 year life.

Ultimately, its like in that old commercial, "you can pay me now, or pay me later."
