Reggie, did you take lessons from Monty Python's argument clinic?

Are you really a ReggieBot?

At 6:40 this morning, you wrote:

>>If natural monopolies cause a lack of innovation, why didn't the
countries with no natural monopolies surpass the US in terms of
innovation.

From your 5:15 pm post:

That is why Europe is so far ahead of us in structured energy products. That is probably why Japan was so far ahead of us in efficient managerial processes such as JIT inventory.

Oh yes, and for good measure:
NSCP innovated nothing.
Now this is something I'm going to enjoy watching you defend.

Reggie,

>They spent 20-30 years rebuilding their industries.>

>>That is why Europe is so far ahead of us in structured energy products. That is probably why Japan was so far ahead of us in efficient managerial processes such as JIT inventory.

Or could it be that natural monopolies tend to be naturally resistant to innovation that affects the bottom-line? Short-term profits over long drove the monopolies who FELL BEHIND the competition. Deming tried to sell his concepts to the US first and they wanted nothing to do with modernization until they could no longer ignore it. I have seen equipment that was thirty-years old and leaked 5 gallons of oil per hour but would not get replaced or fixed until it simply came apart.

What is the price/kilowatt in Europe? What is it to Industrial America? Ever see the price of gasoline in foreign countries? How does that make overland transport more efficient?

><Coke has a natural monopoly yet the price of "sugar/water" has not exactly been dropping in accordance with economies-of-scale now has it. Same old recipe, same old price. Although I hear that the new Diet Coke "sucks less" than the old Diet Coke...>

>>How do you know? Do you even knwo what you are paying for when you buy Coke? Coke's primary ingredient is brand. They can make a 100% profit on the tangible ingredients and still charge 30 cents a can. So how much do the expenses to build and maintain that brand cost, adn how is it beign amortized. You don't know because you are too busy insulting others.

If seeing you for what you are is insulting then maybe you should try a different acting school; one that fools everyone. I am beginning to honestly believe you are just someone who bought a set of books, put up a web-page and is claiming to be an expert on everything. Jack-of-all-trades, master of none. Have you ever worked in the manufacturing sector?

>>NSCP inovated nothing, so I don't see where your comment comes close to making any sense.

Oh really. Name another full-featured browser that was available on the PC/UNIX platform 3 years ago? It was Netscape that made Internet access viable/attractive to the average user hence their meteoric rise. Do you think Microsoft would risk anti-trust behaviour over active-X plug-in vendors? Microsoft sent a clear message to entrepreneurs alright and so far 20 states and the DOJ have sent their salutations.

Cheers,

Norm
