Yea, I have heard of short selling, but I would venture a guess that a lot of people become "traders" in a bull market and they start to lose money and drop out of the game in a bear market. My point is, IMHO, is that during a bull market run, many "traders" consider themselves such because they simply buy "something" and watch it go up (which happens in a bull market). Then when the market turns, they may not understand fundamental financial analysis so, therefore, they may not feel as comfortable shorting stocks because they might not know how to value a potential short...

Yes, the true professional traders know how to short, and I have heard it is easier to make money shorting that going long, but a lot of the so-called day traders as of the past few years have only traded in a bull market environment. Will they feel comfortable shorting the market!?...Just one man's humble opinion!!
