" By the way how many people taking aspirin die of CV disease every day?" Very good point. As has been pointed out previously, the natural death rate for the age group taking Viagra is much higher than the small amount of reported deaths of those taking Viagra. I'm sure that more have died than have been reported. If not, then Viagra is saving lives. I am very confident that if the FDA or PFE knew of any serious, life threatening problem with Viagra, outside of what has already been included on the label, Viagra would have been pulled from the market by now. PFE has already reported that there is not any concern at this point that would indicate any change in the Viagra label. This is not to say that no other negative side effects will be discovered in the future; this is always a risk with a new drug. At this point, however, Viagra appears to be exceptionally safe.

John F. Dawd,Re: " What's the big deal these side effects were all covered on the label".

* Warnings on cigarette labels do not appear to have protected
Tobacco companies from litigation.
* Various warnings on Silicon breast implants haven't either.
* However your biggest flaw lies in your statement
" I am sure all prescribing doctors recommend the pill with a
great deal of warning and consideration of the patient in
question ".

Nothing is further from the truth:

- by and large, Urologists are NOT trained to diagnose and treat
cardiovascular disease: they will be crucified during
malpractice interrogation by any competent attorney.
- if they are prescribing 35 - 50 prescriptions a day, as some
were reported to by the press, there is no way you can properly
detect and treat cardiovascular disease. Most Internists spend
at least 1/2 hour to 45 min per patient: the lack of
appropriate interrogation and investigation in their charts
will kill them during depositions and trials.

There are further pitfalls for the General Practitioner ( Internist or Family physician ), if THEY are left to carry the ED bag in case Urologists scare out of the whole mess:

-These doctors, by and large, HAVE NOT been trained to diagnose
and treat ED. This is a Urological disease.
- in the last 8 weeks these Docs have been lead to believe that
all they have to do is prescribe the darn pill because " it
is soooo safe " and " you really don't need any
investigations ".

-So, if a patient croaks, the attorney IS GOING TO HAVE A F I E L D DAY: Listen
to this:

Q: Doctor, now tell me, how much training did you have in
ED?
A: None

Q: how many patients did you treat until now ?
A: None , until 8 weeks ago when Viagra came out.

Q: And Doctor, what tests did you do to investigate the
cause and the therapy of ED in this patient?

A: None. I just treated him

Q: And Doctor, how did you know that that was the
right treatment?
A: I didn't. I just guessed.

Q:Doctor, is this how you normally practice medicine? You
guess and treat?

A: No sir.

Q:And so Doctor, why did you behave differently now?

A: Well sir, Pfizer made me do it. They led me to believe
over the last 12 months of intense pubblicity that this
was an extremely well researched pill, that it was as
safe as grapefruit juice and that I could prescribe it
with my eyes closed.
Honest your honor.I am a really good Doc. Pfizer made me
do it.

(For brevity's sake I left out the interrogation regarding the deceased evaluation of his cardiovascular system, and possibly, his eyes> Anolan if you REALLY insist, I'll consider it ).

Finally JFD, Re:

" By the way how many people taking aspirin die of CV disease
every day? "

Well JFD, I don't know what you mean by that. Anyway it may come as a surprise to you though, I know, gg, but ~99% of people with Cardiovascular disease are on or should be on Aspirin, because Aspirin has been firmly demonstrated to decrease Cardiovascular Disease mortality,
