Hi, Ann!! Welcome back. I am so glad you had fun at the seashore. I could use a nice long vacation myself. There is nothing like fresh, salty air to clear your head.

You are right that the drugs issue is very complicated. I hear exactly what you are saying. I am a pragmatist more than anything, and the drugs policy just isn't working. I also think we have criminalized drug addiction, which many other countries handle with treatment options, but we handle with jail time. Unfortunately, this doesn't help the addict get off drugs, and once someone who is already having problems being healthy and productive has a criminal record, it seems like a human life is being thrown away.

I think we agree totally about the importance of quality early childhood education. The ideal situation, in my mind, is to maximize the time that mothers who would like to can take off to bond with their children, through some adjustment to our tax scheme. Of course, one of the problems we have in America is rampant materialism as well. It's fine to have nice things, but a lot of the women I know think luxuries are necessities, and have gotten into a competitive kind of consumerism where two salaries seem absolutely necessary, when they are not. Children are tiny for such a short number of years, and it is so important that they have plenty of their parents' time and attention.

I hope your stocks are up!!
