Donald,

I agree that C.S. Lewis's question (and having read some of his writings, I suspect I'll enjoy his presentation of Mr. McDowell's) cannot be addressed purely by reasoning. This, IMHO, strikes to the heart of the matter. Let me try to explain.

Do you love your wife? Why? Are there logical reasons? Sure there are... but why "love"... why not just "like"? I think the mystery of that emotion we call "love" may be the same mystery embodied in "Faith". Just as most (if not all) humans have a need to love, maybe most (if not all) humans have a need to have Faith in something. It absolutely is beyond fact, or logic, or reason, or (and this has probably been my not-very-well-communicated point) science.

Along these lines, I'd almost tend to say that "Scientific Creationism" is, at best, an oxymoron. At worst, it makes a mockery of science and a false pronouncement in the name of Faith.

Have you had a chance to read the hyperlink to Mark Rupright's reply to "Scientific Look at Creation". I'd like to hear your thoughts. I've been reading Stephen Jay Gould.

In any case, I would be happy to continue our discussion on either one of the following subjects (or a new one of your choosing):
1. Evolution, or
2. Love and Faith.

Greg

Philippians 1 (27-28)

Only conduct yourselves in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ, so that whether I come and see you or remain absent, I will hear of you that you are standing firm in one spirit, with one mind striving together for the faith of the gospel; in no way alarmed by your opponents -- which is a sign of destruction for them, but of salvation for you, and that too, from God.

I will call upon the Lord;
Who is worthy to be Praised.
So shall I be saved from my enemies.

The Lord Liveth and blessed be the rock
And let the God of Thy Salvation be Exalted.
