Motherboard Manuals

The most time consuming activity is reading the motherboard manual, setting the jumpers and configuring the bios per the instructions in the manual. Very few motherboard manuals are user friendly. This is one area where you can save a lot of time if you have somebody who has done the job before do the work for you.

At least they (some?) come with a manual. My Compaq has almost no documentation. I wanted to find out how to disable the onboard video. Nothing in the small booklet supplied with the machine. I was referred to the help system that is installed on the machine. The extent of the installed help system is a picture that identifies the primary components.

I have downloaded and read ABIT, Aopen, ASUS and Intel manuals. I find them to be extensive and well written and available on the Internet. If I am interested in a board and can not find the manual or it is incomplete I lose interest in the board. The bios and configuration issues are more important to me than benchmarks. I do anticipate configuration issues. I have not checked into online help. I believe online support should be considered when choosing a mobo.

Manuals

ASUS manuals pretty good with the Abit excellent. A Open is getting better but still quite a ways to go.
