Matt, thanks....have looked thru that link before. However, I don't see it being a by-product based on what that website has to offer. It looks like the plants who produce it, do so as their main product.

As i read the info on the link provided by Matt on #2655, it struck me that EXXON is a minor producer of MTBE with only about 3% of the total production. As the largest(?) oil company in the world with a huge gasoline distribution system, EXXON is probably a "net buyer" of MTBE from other sources (AMOCO has the same amount of production).

It seems to me that EXXON, with a relatively small capital investment in MTBE production (1 plant), has greater incentive to pursue a BSC (better,safer,cheaper) product like DF-144.
