South Korean conglomerate Hyundai Group, which in 1996 acquired struggling disk-drive maker Maxtor Corp., Friday filed for a $575 million initial public offering for the company.

In a filing with the Securities and Exchange Commission, the company didn't specify how many shares would be sold. About $100 million worth of shares will be sold by debt-laden Hyundai, which is in the midst of a restructuring.
