Hi Charles,
First, apologies for the off-handed remarks.

I was simply asking myself what MSFT had originated, and FAT was one of those things. I'm not a big fan of FAT but in 1982 or whatever it made the difference, according to the MS-DOS encyclopedia, which is admittedly an MSFT publication; I still consider it to be accurate on that account.

Yes, I've heard great things about some of the IBM machines, and the UNIX machines. I don't know much about NT except that it seems to be selling alot lately.

In any event I couldn't come up with much that MSFT had written or invented from the ground up. I think the most cutting edge institution thus far has been Bell Labs. MSFT research is a far cry from that, at least at this point. Is it possible in this day and age to bring in a bunch of ivory tower people and invent something worthwhile, or should the researchers have MBAs from the school of hard knocks instead?

FWIW
Andy
