A vast vast vast majority (>90%) of people don't want to tolerate the hassle, time, and
inconvenience of using two OSes on the same machine.

From Mac the Knife: "Of course, the Microsoft-Apple relationship doesn't preclude either artiste from
pursuing side projects with other
talented session men. Consider IBM's rumored contributions to the Mach kernel that will form the
core of Mac OS X: According to some pimply members of the Knife's fan club, the new version of
the microkernel will feature the ability to run multiple OSes, a trick IBM hammered out in early demo
recordings involving OS/2 and Windows. Dig it!"

I think reality is always more bland than the tabloids would have you believe. Mac OS X will be great, but relax, the kernel is just a small piece of the pizzle. There are several bodies of work on the Mach kernel which Apple has to assimilate and advance, because most groups focused on one direction. In short, Apple will be doing some ground breaking work to generate a Mach kernel with good isosynchronous task support along with SMP and power management features. Who knows if it will make Mac OS X 1.0

Anyway, Mac OS X is going to be very impressive, but that has more to do with Carbon than anything else.
