Thanks for the post. Fascinating history lessons for anyone interested in the biotechs.

Another view on the profound impact the discovery of antibiotics had on medicine can be found in the writings of Lewis Thomas. His books include The Youngest Science, Notes of a Medicine-Watcher; The Lives of a Cell; and the Medusa and the Snail. He has a real way with words and clearly articulates the feelings of medicine when handed these tools in the 30's.

Kind of reminds me of the story about Al G. Bell trying to sell the telephone to Western Union, and they said "no thanks, it will never amount to much of anything."

My research suggests rBPI is the "telephone" being lampooned by everyone as "something that will never amount to much."
