2 quick points

1/ cm I've always like the ultraseek thing -- not only for diversity and revenue which will count when somebody leaps seek technologically, but even more important IMHO, it gets the fingers and the eyeballs move with the fingers. What I mean is once you're used to seeing the logo or using their box -- it's the one you're comfortable with -- and there are a lot of home users on that Fortune 500 list.

2/ linked in my mind is an old anecdote I read 35 years ago about Mr. Woolworth who was asked how he picked his locations. He said that he travelled to every town in the midwest and purchased a lease on the nearest empty store to the new movie theatre (in the 20s). Location, location and being near the action. I, for one, prefer deliberation and care -- In twenty years I've seen too many tech companies invest too much too soon in a good, but not winning, idea.

3/ FWIW My better half hear a radio ad for seek in the NY area Thursday night with a country and western motiff -- She liked it.

I've stopped posting on Yahoo, but will post on the new raging bull.

A Couple More SEEK Gleanings...

In rooting around the Web today, I found a couple
of... mildly.... interesting things about SEEK.

SEEK has equity participation in Hoover's Online...
the leading online business capsulized summary service.
Hoover's has something called www.cyberstocks.com which
is fairly interesting as well as a fairly nifty stock
screening capability.

And... now... item #2. Remember that George Soros
Investment Group-funded business intelligence spin-off...
NewsReal? Well, their site is finally live at
news-real.com.

Here's how they describe themselves... and please
note their channel partners.

*********

" NewsRealSM, Inc, founded by key executives in the successful spin-off of the
Corporate Information Division of Infoseek Corporation, officially launched
new company operations in January 1998. NewsReal has complete financial
backing from Soros Fund Management, the investment management firm
controlled by George Soros and Infoseek Corporation retains a minority
ownership position in the new company and is a key strategic partner of
NewsReal.
NewsReal's vision is to create a revolutionary and multi-dimensional
"Business Channel for the Web" that fundamentally changes the ways in
which every business user accesses news and business information, gains
knowledge, makes decisions and takes action.
NewsReal has created key business channel partnerships with companies
serving both Internet and corporate intranet users, such as Infoseek
Corporation, Wayfarer and Netscape Corporation. NewsReal and CNNfn
announced a new strategic partnership on 1 April 1998, launching CNNfn
IndustryWatch on CNNfn.com.
NewsReal's initial business product, IndustryWatchSM , covers twenty
vertical industries, providing business users with industry-related daily news
and information from hundreds of news sources and "Executive Summaries"
which help users screen information important to them.
NewsReal's products are powered by leading Artificial Intelligence, neural
network, natural language summarization* and other advanced technologies
"behind the scenes" to filter and to integrate key news and business
information for users. NewsReal's proprietary "multi-linking" software links
users directly to focused areas of business intelligence about companies in the
news - such as company overview, stock quote and performance, pr
releases and more - all from a single selection point.
NewsReal has focused on the user experience to bring navigational simplicity,
context and order to the "information chaos" of the Web."
