R1: the CIENA profile from YAHOO: CIENA Corporation designs, manufactures and sells dense wavelength division multiplexing systems for fiber-optic communications networks. For the six months ended 4/98, revenues rose 78% to $287.8 million. Net income rose 30% to $55 million. Revenues benefitted from increased sales of Sentry and 4000 systems. Net income was partially offset by a $9.5 million purchased R and D charge and $8.6 million increase in S/G/A expenses due to legal costs associated with the Pirelli litigation.
