The thing that's really interesting to me was TrumpCards statement that he "was doing his DD on the thread". This is a new approach to me, since I still think of DD as what Byron is lovingly feeding to us this morning, searching over the Web for clues, etc. But all of these fellows seem to be pursuing this kind of provocation with hidden personal intent. To just bash the basher doesn't really solve much, other than multiply the number of foolish posts many, many times over. Recognizing them and isolating their intents early on would do us all a lot of good, though. Chip

Laz, I don't track either INFE or ICVI, so I didn't experience either of your examples first-hand, but I know what you mean. As I said in a post yesterday, what we have on this thread transcends the stock itself. We've somehow managed to develop a strong community fabric here that so far has been able to incorporate newcomers without it being weakened. I'm hoping this will continue to be the case in the future. At this point, I think this thread is mature enough to deal with slash and burn artists without the thread being undermined, but I must admit when we get into a little fracas, I get concerned. When battles ensue on other threads that don't involve mutual respect, the threads usually devolve into something that puts most people off and drives people away (witness FAMH). Here we try to treat everyone with respect until they give us a reason not to. That's a rare thing on SI, and we should cherish and nurture it because we may never experience it in quite the same way again. Talk about rambling!! Sorry. I guess I have pretty strong feelings about this issue, and I can't tell you how much I appreciate you and the others on this thread who help to provide that mutually respectful environment that creates the basis for our strong community.
