Hmm...almost word-for-word identical to the NYTimes piece. I think we can assume this is not an independent source. :)

The rumor doesn't make much sense to me, but I guess stranger things have happened.

Singapore development agency issues a denial

In the article titled "Singapore: Asian flu won't sideline fab plans" (see May 18, page 34), an official of the Economic Development Board was quoted as saying that "Texas Instruments will most likely pull out of the Tech Semiconductor Singapore Pte. Ltd. consortium now that they are cutting their DRAM focus." This is extremely surprising to us, and is also totally incorrect since our officer did not say that.

The EDB does not comment nor speculate on any of its clients' operations or activities until and if the company itself makes any information public. It is our longstanding policy to maintain strict confidentiality on all such information.

EDB did not state that Texas Instruments was pulling out of Tech Semiconductor.
