Greg, the size of the ligand is what is so remarkable. LGND can mimic a polypeptide of 10-20K with a small molecule of 1/2K. The results is very unexpected, which is why it is so exciting. Moreover, they have been able to achieve EXTREME specificity. The small (500 dalton) molecule can distinguish between the mouse and human G-CSF receptor.

Thus, the small molecule can be made and modified cheaply, but it can also have MORE specificity than the natural product (and the small molecule can be taken orally).

I'm sure that the me toos are falling all over each other.
