Building core processors for Windows CE is a big deal. Although people talk about DIVX as a boon for VLSI, I suspect it is small potatoes compared to a Windows CE core. In 5 years time it wouldn't surprise me if there were, say, 5 million DIVX machines sold per year. At $10 a pop that is only a $50 million per year market for DIVX chips. But, the Windows CE market could be a LOT larger. For instance, lets assume 1/3 of TV's have it and 3/4 of VCR's (or recordable DVDs) and 1/4 of cars, ... . A much, much bigger market. Of course that size of market invites competition, but still, it has the capability to dwarf VLSI's current business, which I do not believe DIVX has.

Jim, It's been frustrating that the market does not seem to appreciate VLSI's strategy. They are totally committed to the proprietary chip concept but they take it on the chin just like any other chip manufacturer. I bought VLSI (and TDFX) primarily because they can stand out from all the others by delivering unique quality. Yet the market gives both below market pe's. I guess we'll just have to wait a little longer until their strategy's are proven successful. Joe C.
