Good morning, Michael!
Thank you for the welcome back. We had a lovely time. Vancouver is a beautiful city---It reminded me of San Francisco a bit. And the Rockies were gorgeous. We saw osprey and elk and moose..But now a sales pitch...
Have you ever skied Banff? The highlight of the trip (for me) was the Banff Springs Hotel. What an incredible place!!!
Originally built in 1888, it's an enormous Scottish castle, baronial mansion full of antique replicas and huge chandeliers and fireplaces and there are courtyards and stained glass and vaulted ceilings. We were entertained royally with a "Taste of Banff" dinner and I ate myself silly and then got lost wandering the dark halls and thinking I was going to run into Jack Nicholson any minute. At dinner,I had mentioned that a place like this HAD to have a few ghosts and sure enough...I was informed there were at least two--The Burning Bride, whose veil caught fire from the chandelier as she descended the stairs on her wedding day, and Sam the Porter(well-I can't remember if his name was really Sam or not)who still lets people into their rooms at night. Someone once said about the hotel, "The people who come here are dreamers."
Has anyone stayed there? We hope to get back in the winter with the boys. I am in love. And I don't even like to ski.
