Paul, <failure to understand volume pricing. ..Compaq probably purchases 2.7 million CPUS/quarter...>
<You need to think BIG.>

Paul, Paul, your excuse is lame. Your power of
deduction is truly exceptional.

Just few "little" things you failed to link:

1. Compaq and Dell do not sell through "pricewatch";

2. When going down to the chain, the CPU price
DOES NOT DROP (due to markup for each stage,
in case you didn't know), IT GROWS UP;

3. In case if it does not, it means inventory
problem, as you might suspect. Or just the
source is a BS.

However, you have a few more lines of defence. You
could claim these underpriced MMX-233 as a re-labelled
MMX-166, or claim that the article was talking about
the mobile variants, or blame communists for making
bootleg chips (this would be your best!).

You need to be more creative to keep your
job and your worth.
