You could take one of two positions about tomorrow's media: It would be ruled by old-line titans like Time Warner or dominated by new tech giants like Microsoft and America Online. Both these views turned out to be wrong. Except for and the basically trivial Slate, Microsoft has retreated. America Online turned its back on creating rich multimedia content when it abandoned its Greenhouse project. Time Warner continues to sink money into the much criticized Pathfinder, a groundbreaking venture that already seems like an anachronism. And then there is Disney. As other major media companies retreat, Disney advances.....
