The refrain of "dead money" was what caused me to sell after waiting weeks at a loss just to find that if I had waited 3 1/2 months on average, I would have lost NO MONEY! Dead money thinking is how you lose your shirt in trading the techs. You have to learn the discipline and it is discipline to walk away from the screen and wait. You put your play in place and the market moved against you, but it's portfolio wide, so it isn't one stock having a problem. It will all come back, but you have to wait now. If you don't want to lose money, wait it out; I beg you. Most will come back in 3 1/2 months, some will take a bit longer. There might be tax selling towards the end of the year in some, but they will come back late Dec. and into the early part of the next year. Over trading will kill you and being down is what causes that kind of impulse.

You would be much better off to have the refrain; I'm not going to take a loss on anything in my portfolio and refuse to sell at a loss no matter what then to worry about dead money. I can say this because I see the techs as being oversold and they will come back, but it takes rotation and sentiment changes take months. There is no way to trade yourself out of this kind of hole. You will just make it cummulatively worse and then it gets really bad psychologically. Once a losing mindset takes over; hang it up. Never trade when you are depressed about your current or previous trades or you will hurt yourself even worse in your trading habits.
