Don't know the book you are reading but the points you mention are true. The OSS (Office of Strategic Services) was the organization than eventually became the CIA. There was a group of German army officers who were plotting to kill Hitler. In fact there was a bomb planted in his headquarters that wounded Hitler and killed a number of his officers. One of the officers involved in the plot was Field Marshal Erwin Rommel of Afrika Korps fame who was forced to take poison by the SS. There were also plans by the SS to set up in the Alps to continue the war. It was called Operation Werewolf. It never became operational.
