>>If I read it right you suggest going with a 233MMX or prefer a 300MMX(no PII)?<<

The Pentium MMX series stops at Pentium233 MMX, these chips fit in socket seven motherboards. The PII chips start at PI 233 ( all PII's have MMX) and currently stop at PII 400. They fit in a different type of motherboard (slot one motherboards) The 300 MMX is more correctly stated as a PII 300.

If one is climbing the speed ladder it has been suggested that the PII 300 is a good place to stop as the PII 333 chip has about the same performance and the PII 350 and the PII 400 are still a bit pricey.

Graphics applications are CPU and RAM intensive and will benefit from faster processors and lots of RAM. The question is how much are you willing to spend for a marginal increase in performance? You have to balance the benefits of more RAM vs speed in the processor. If your computer is RAM starved a faster cpu will not do you much good.

Pentium and PII

Pentiums top out at a 233MMX. A P233MMX is roughly equal to a PII233. What I was trying to convey to you is that YOU need to determine YOUR requirements and budget.

Are you moving to a PII because your programs require it? Or because you just want it and can afford it? Or will an upgrade to a P233MMX do YOU just fine for the next 6 to 12 months.

If you move to a PII, I was suggesting a PII300.
