>>All the "talk" out of Cyrix regarding a SLot 1 will fall a lot short of the enormous back-end operations
required to build, assemble and test a Slot 1 cartridge. NSM will be swamped when they evaluate the
enormity of the size, complexity and COST of this type of operation.

Maybe Natioanl Semi is smart enough to realize that too. Maybe that's why they are working with other companies on Slot 1.

>>Mother Intel won't be in any mood to lend him a hand.

Maybe Uncle Sam will point a gun on Daddy Andy.

Paul,

As soon as someone builds a CPU with an onboard L2 and memory controller, slot 1/2 will be obsolete for single processor systems. As Glenn Henry has correctly stated, the PCI bus should be the interface between the CPU and the rest of the world. By containing all of the memory functions within the CPU die there is no longer any need for a high speed external bus architecture.

It is just a matter of time until slot 1/2 is relegated to multi-processor applications only.
