Maybe for the smaller to mid-sized companies, but I don't see it that way where the larger firms and service providers are concerned. I see them going to at least two (sometimes three, but not commonly) "standards-compliant" vendors, thereby distributing their risk and increasing their ability to horse trade.

The decisioin to follow this tactic comes down from "up above," and the grunts who have to live with the problems associated with a bifurcated environment usually follow the orders, albeit, begrudgingly.

My theory: LU will buy BAY after the pooling of interests gag is lifted, in November.

BAY's market cap is approaching 7 billion, a lot to pay taxes on.
