Last week we received a visit from a Japanese Venture Capital firm that has offices in the region. This was as a result of meetings earlier in the spring where they expressed a strong interest in funding a portion of the current joint venture we are involved in.

The meeting last week was significant in that they had decided that ANY investment would better done with our U.S. based joint venture partner. "Political instability" and the "close connection of the major JV partner to the government" were continually mentioned in the conversations. It didn't take a brain surgeon to figure out that while these folks were here in K.L. trying to invest cash $$$$$ Mahathir was in Japan bashing anything western and specifically free markets.

BTW did you see the headlines in one of last week's issues of NST? He is now talking about an "orderly transition of power after the currency crisis is resolved". Wonder when he will figure out that as soon as he is gone the currency "crisis" will be gone also.
