Question: Any recommendations out there?

Suggest: Get yourself a P-II/400 with 100MHz bus, and be done with it.

Do you want the best computer you have ever owned?

Then get that P-II/400 with 100MHz bus for now.

Edwin,

I would recommend the unique 112Mhz FIC VA-503+ to run with K6-2. It is available for $106 from "Real World".
realworldtech.com

On this board, you could set the "(SD)RAM frequence = AGP frequence" to use all your existing EDO/SDRAM to run at 112Mhz since the RAM are timed at 75Mhz.

With 112Mhz 1MB L2 cache, K6-280/112 is faster than PII-300/66 while K6-336/112 is as fast as PII-350/100 (if not faster) under Business Winstone97.

P.S. The undocumented 112Mhz bus on VA-503+ is 1-2 2-3 2-3.

I wouldn't go with that Tyan board, it uses an older VIA chipset that doesn't support 100 MHz bus. anandtech.com just reviewed a TMC and an AOpen board, ATX form factor and gave them good reviews. The FIC VA503+ is also fast and flexible. The TMC and AOpen are limited to 2 ISA slots, the VA503+ is limited to 3 PCI slots, but all of them have an AGP video slot.
