Rudedog,

Agreed.. A lot of major CAD systems are also designed for Alphas. While this doesn't count as a Server, it does count as a high-end workstation, where Merced and Xeno's (xenon's or whatever they are to be called) will be sold into. And I can buy them today.. so I can't believe the "no software" excuse anymore. Sure I can't play Command and Conquer on an Alpha, but if I buy an Alpha I know that and shouldn't be playing games on it anyway ;-)

rudedog, I agree Alpha is a good chip from an engineering standpoint, and it will have its place for some applications. But even so I think the Alpha marketers did too little too late, and I don't think it will cause Intel significant problems. I think Intel's SMP technology will be by far and away the preferred choice.
