Time Traveler,

There are not too many companies *in* the mainframe business, give me a list of the major ones that compete with IBM and sell mainframes that run MVS who have declared bankruptcy. I don't understand your statement 'have you noticed quite a few companies are making a killing (profit) on PC's'???? I own stock in CPQ, it's down around 40%, I own stock in Intel, it's down around 35%, other than Dell, please tell me who is making a killing in the PC market. By the way, do you realize that IBM has increased in value 6 times since Gerstner came aboard? (40-240 pre split). I have not checked, but it could be that even Intel has not done this well since 1993.... IBM was 'fat' in employees back in the 1980's, that has been addressed, and they were not responsive to customers, that has and is being addressed. Yes, they have shown no hardware growth, but they do make good money on high end sysplex machines. The fact that they are diversified seems to have protected them to some extent from the current debacle in the PC market.
