The salesman at BestBuy said the lack of units to sell was due to Compaq shipping new models in 2-3 weeks. I asked him if these machines would have Windows 98 on them and he said "probably". This left me with the impression that Windows wasn't so much the holdup. Of course these new models are probably being "delayed" for Windows 98. Thus, I guess, Windows 98 is the indirect reason for the lack of stock at all these stores even though most companies offer free upgrades.
