Mike, good post.

I would add, however that, according to PFE product information now the retina has PDE6, (not PDE5) which has about 1/10th the affinity for Viagra as the PDE5 in the penis. As we all know, specificity of different classes of bioreceptors is usually dose dependent, with specificity decreasing as chemical concentration increases.

This would account for the lower number of men who get the visual changes with Viagra.

However I do agree that giving a drug with even possible deleterious effects on the retina to a group, particularly diabetics, who are already succeptible to visual problems is quite risky from a corporate product liability standpoint. And since PFE has not said it is contraindicated in men with diabetic retinopathy, they will not have the defense of the "learned intermediary" to fall back on.

P.S. If you want to put in a market order to buy it's best not to do it until at least 5-10 minutes after the open, MM's move the ask like sharks on those pre-open market orders.
