Divx today, Cube inside...

New At-Home Movie System Launches in San Francisco and Richmond, Va.; Divx Debut at Circuit City and the good guys! Stores Today
HERNDON, Va., June 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Today, San Francisco, Calif., and Richmond, Va., become the first two cities in the nation where consumers can purchase Divx -- ''the best way to watch movies at home'' that combines the theater-quality picture and sound of DVD with the convenience of no-returns, the affordability of rental prices and the ready availability of recent feature titles.

Divx-enhanced DVD players under the Zenith-Inteq brand will be available at San Francisco-area Circuit City and the good guys! locations and at Richmond-area Circuit City locations. During launch week, Circuit City and the good guys! will carry a selection of approximately 30 Divx movie titles (see attached), including TOMORROW NEVER DIES, THE FULL MONTY and AIR BUD, as well as numerous other titles from Disney, Paramount, Universal, Twentieth Century Fox, MGM and DreamWorks. Divx expects to add about 50 titles per month, reaching more than 150 titles at national roll out later this year. The number of titles is expected to grow to 400 by the end of Divx's first year.

''Divx is the next giant step in the evolution of home entertainment,'' said Richard L. Sharp, chairman and chief executive officer of Digital Video Express and Circuit City Stores, Inc. ''San Francisco and Richmond consumers have an exciting opportunity to be among the first in the nation to experience the most convenient and highest-quality video system available today.''

Divx is a revolutionary new system for watching feature movies at home. Consumers purchase a special, encrypted movie disc for about $4.50. Included in the purchase price is a two-day viewing period, but unlike videotape rentals, the viewing period does not begin when consumers leave the store. Instead, it begins only when they insert the disc into the Divx player for the first time, whether on the day of purchase, the next week, or months later. Divx discs do not have to be returned, so consumers never incur late fees. Additional viewing periods -- as well as an option to convert the disc to unlimited free play -- can be purchased through the Divx player. Divx players can play all basic DVD discs, but the more modestly priced Divx discs cannot be played on basic DVD players.

The Zenith-Inteq player, model DVX2100, available in stores today, has a suggested retail price of $499. In addition to providing theater-quality picture and sound, the player offers a complete array of DVD capabilities, including forward, reverse skip/scan, pause, chaptering and Dolby Digital audio. The Zenith-Inteq player also will play basic DVD discs that offer multiple aspect ratios (i.e. screen sizes), languages and camera angles as well as play all audio CDs.

''New video releases will be available on Divx discs on the same day video tapes appear in rental stores,'' said Sharp. ''And, for those consumers who want to order their Divx discs or basic DVDs in advance, without ever leaving home, they can shop at DivxFlix, our online Internet store at www.divx.com.''

Digital Video Express, LP is a partnership between Circuit City Stores, Inc. (NYSE: CC - news, KMX - news), the nation's leading consumer electronics retailer, and a prominent Los Angeles entertainment law firm. To obtain more information about Divx, visit its web site at www.divx.com.
