Sounds like computer companies are not making any money.

Remember when memory became a commodity?

YIKES! Say G'Night Dell, GW2K, etc....

Kevin, ya finally got me out of hiding; looks like a great system, but a few extra bucks to step up to an 8g hard drive and a 17" monitor w/b worth considering. Shouldn't add more than $250 but you'll eat up 4g in no time if you're running several of the latest office suites, have a sizeable database, and store much email. the big monitor at 1024 reduces scrolling a lot w/o much icon size penalty (a la' lisa); an additional 8.4g drive c/b added to the 4g for around $300 or less later on so if ya gotta econiomize, get the monitor. I've got the rest, but driving it with a 166; my ISDN line makes up for the embarasment of a less than 200 mhz chip.
good luck!
NHBob

Kevin,

You may want to check around and see how the AMD k6 compares performance-wise and compatibility-wise with the pentium and pentium II's. It may not be worth the cheaper price tag.

I also second NHBob's suggestion that you look at a bigger drive and monitor.

Hi Kevin--my knowledge of computers is rather abysmal

But the price that you have been offered makes me sick -- considering what I paid for mine barely 15 months ago. Where are you getting this from--mail order or some store??

Also, is it just my imagination or is there more rancor than usual at SI. Let me see -- in the past week, we've had varying levels of rancor regarding immigration and patriotism, trading styles, sexism, market calls --and a couple of people that I have book-marked, Rainier and Jenna--both rather restrained individuals-- have been in fairly vitriolic exchanges, over things that I am not even sure that I fully understand.

May be it is nervousness about the market that is causing this.

On the other hand why not blame it on El Nino--it gets blamed for everything else, after all.

BTW, do you have a view--in the context of Dave's question-- as to the type of return that you would look to get to make you feel that it is worth the time, effort and risk entailed in trading the markets? I have often wondered about this and even posted about this on dppl's thread many moons ago.

Take care
