Multi Media Content For Visual Data's Full Motion Video Libraries To Be Broadcast By The Real Broadcast Network PR Newswire - July 16, 1998 13:25
New Distribution Method Enhances Reliability, Quality, and Reach
POMPANO BEACH, Fla., July 16 /PRNewswire/ -- Visual Data Corporation (Nasdaq: VDAT), one of the leading producers, marketers and distributors of full-motion visual information on the Internet, and RealNetworks (Nasdaq: RNWK), the recognized leader in streaming media, today announced that they have entered into a distribution and marketing agreement. Under the terms of the agreement, all of Visual Data's streaming multimedia content from its growing list of libraries, including HotelView(R), Video News Wire(TM), AttractionView(TM), CareView(TM), ResortView(TM), DestinationView(TM), and TalentView(TM), will now be hosted and broadcast by RealNetworks' Real Broadcast Network. In addition, the agreement calls for Visual Data's various libraries to receive additional exposure on the Internet via Timecast(TM) and RealGuide(TM), two additional marketing services offered by RealNetworks.
RealNetworks developed the Real Broadcast Network with MCI as a reliable, cost-effective, high-quality service, to broadcast live and on-demand RealAudio(R) and RealVideo(R) programming to large audiences. By using advanced splitter technology, the Real Broadcast Network has the potential to reach up to 50,000 simultaneous viewers and daily audiences of 10-15 million. By using the ultra high-speed, ultra wide bandwidth capabilities of the Real Broadcast Network, Visual Data is now able to provide the growing Internet audience its vast library of audio and video content with a higher degree of quality and reliability.
"People all over the world, seeking information on a variety of subjects, be they travel agents, tourists, families of healthcare patients, entertainment producers or investors, now have even better access to full- motion video information over the Internet that helps them make informed decisions about travel destinations, choices in healthcare facilities, hiring entertainment talent and investment opportunities," stated David Goodman, Chief Operating Officer of Visual Data. "Information that used to be just static pictures and words on a page is now available even quicker and easier in a format that gives life to the subject being explored."
"A key reason for entering into this agreement," Mr. Goodman added, "was the desire to greatly enhance our ability to accommodate a far greater number of simultaneous viewers and provide images that come even closer to the quality of broadcast television. Additionally, RealNetworks' worldwide presence will allow us to better serve overseas markets in the same high quality, efficient manner as is generally offered here in North America. An added plus of this agreement is the extra level of marketing support our libraries will receive on the Internet via their Timecast and RealGuide ancillary services."
"This agreement, and our resulting new partnership with RealNetworks," commented Mr. Randy Selman, President and CEO of Visual Data, "represents another important step forward towards our goal of becoming the predominant media content provider in the advertising and marketing industry. We can now offer both our clients and end-users the advantages of state-of-the-art distribution on a worldwide basis that rivals major broadcast companies. In turn, we continue to position Visual Data to become a leader in the rapidly emerging global electronic marketplace of tomorrow."
"We are excited that Visual Data Corp. has chosen the Real Broadcast Network to broadcast its video advertising content for its clients," said Phil Barret, senior vice president, Media Technology Group, RealNetworks, Inc. "The Visual Data video products, with sight, sound and motion, are an effective advertising and marketing tool for anyone looking to impact a customer in a cost efficient manner."
