Continually providing innovative technology solutions to business customers, the Computer Systems
Division (CSD) of Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc. (TAIS) today announced the
TekBright 50D, the company's first flat panel LCD monitor. Combining a 15-inch, portrait or
landscape adjustable screen with digital display technology, the TekBright 50D offers
picture-perfect graphics and superior text quality for a variety of business users.

"Our business customers rely on Toshiba for innovative computing solutions," said Jeffrey
Friederichs, vice president of marketing for Toshiba's Computer Systems Division. "Our new
TekBright 50D is another example of Toshiba's technology leadership at work. With a pure digital
display, customers receive a high quality flat panel monitor for the clearest viewing possible in a
flexible, easy-to-use design."

Flexible configuration for a variety of customers

The TekBright 50D is ideal for users in space-constrained environments such as financial institutions,
healthcare facilities, airline reservationists and call centers. The TekBright 50D's sleek design is also
well-suited for high-profile areas and offices where image is paramount.

Customers can benefit from the TekBright 50D's small footprint and flexible configurations. For
true-to-form viewing capabilities, the monitor is easily adjustable from landscape to portrait mode,
an option that allows users to view an 8 1/2-inch x 11-inch document in its entirety when rotated 90
degrees to portrait position.

The TekBright 50D's large, 15-inch viewable image provides nearly as much viewing area as
traditional 17-inch CRT monitors but occupies approximately 60 percent less desk space. The
display was designed for maximum viewing comfort at various angles and also features a tilt function
for added flexibility.

Breakthrough onscreen performance

Setting the TekBright 50D apart from the competition is Toshiba's implementation of digital display
technology - providing a crisp, distortion-free image every time. The TekBright 50D connects
directly to the included PCI Graphics Adapter driven by an S3 ViRGE/MX digital graphics chip.
The monitor's unique digital interface eliminates the analog to digital conversions required in
traditional analog-based flat panel LCD displays, resulting in a clear, color-rich image.

The TekBright 50D removes the necessity for on-screen display (OSD) controls for pincushioning
functions and size adjusting since digital conversion is eliminated. Distortion often found along the
edges of traditional displays is automatically removed, resulting in superior image uniformity and text
quality. A single brightness control makes simple adjustments a snap.

The multimedia-ready TekBright 50D includes two integrated one-watt speakers as well as volume
control, microphone and headphone output jacks. The monitor also provides a mute switch for
enabling and disabling the speakers

Pricing and Availability

The TekBright 50D will be available in June with a single-unit estimated street price of $1,599.
Toshiba's TekBright monitors are available through Toshiba's reseller, mail order and retail partners.
