AURORA, Ill., June 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Westell Technologies (Nasdaq: WSTL) today announced that at SuperComm '98 it will collaborate with industry leaders Lucent Technologies, DSC Communications and Texas Instruments to jointly showcase the benefits of Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) solutions for lightning-fast Internet, video-conferencing and Remote LAN access. Westell will demonstrate the broad range of its local loop technology at the tradeshow, exhibiting products and systems for local loop delivery of voice and data communications. SuperComm '98 is running June 9-11 at the Georgia World Congress Center in Atlanta, Ga. Westell exhibit booth 7519 is in Hall G next to the Fiber Pavilion.

Westell will demonstrate its Discrete Multi-tone (DMT) Asymmetric Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) systems in the SuperVision DSL Access Multiplexer (DSLAM), showing the first commercially available DSLAM to support both Carrierless Amplitude Phase Modulation (CAP) and DMT DSL technologies operating simultaneously in the same system. The Westell DMT ADSL system on display is based on Texas Instrument's versatile Digital Signal Processing (DSP) DSL chipsets and supports T1.413 Issue 2, Category 2 performance (up to 8 Mbps) within the ATM based SuperVision architecture. DSL solutions will also be demonstrated and exhibited jointly by Westell in the Texas Instruments (booth #4829), DSC Communications (booth#4239), Lucent Technologies (booth #6693) and Super-Neighborhood Lucent Technologies (Hall A, Isles 100-400, booth#44445) exhibit areas.

"At SuperComm this year, Westell is demonstrating the balanced strength of our local loop technologies. While we are highly recognized for pioneering many of the ADSL systems and products that are currently being deployed in the marketplace today, our Telco Access Products have long been recognized by telco service providers around the world as superior support systems," stated Marc Zionts, Westell's CEO. "An important part of our business is our partnerships. At SuperComm we are demonstrating the strength of our integrated systems, showing real, live applications and total access systems throughout the exhibit hall."

Westell Telco Access demonstrations at the SuperComm '98 show include PROACT (network performance monitoring systems), SmartLink (automatic protection switch systems), SlimJack (high density mounting assemblies) and MegaJack (network interface units). Westell will also be unveiling an exciting new complete local loop delivery system that provides services like HDSL, Quad Fiber, Repeatered T1, DS3 Muxing, integrated test access and 1:1 protection switching.

Westell xDSL demonstrations at SuperComm '98 include fast Internet access, remote LAN access and video applications over Westell's SuperVision CAP, SuperVision DMT and the FlexCAP2 (DSL system -- combined with RedBack Networks' Subscriber Management System 1000). Westell will have on exhibit, for the first time, its new InterAccess2 (HDSL product, developed by Westell Europe). Westell's InterAccess2 HDSL has been developed for the cost- effective deployment of E1 and T1 solutions over existing copper wires. InterAccess2 is fully ETSI compliant, carries the CE mark and is BABT approved.

Westell's xDSL demonstrations focus on the service benefits obtained by using DSL in residential, small office and home office environments. Westell will show how it is addressing the needs for simple, fast installations in customer locations with an "Easy Installation of ADSL" presentation in the Westell booth, demonstrating how quickly and easily the consumer will be able to connect their Westell ADSL modem directly to their computer, once ADSL service is available.

Westell will also feature the capabilities of Westell WorldWide, the company's ADSL services subsidiary, and Westell's FastKey (accelerated Rate Adaptive DSL (RADSL)) deployment program.
