ImagicTV Joins Newbridge Family of Affiliate Companies
Technology Enables Delivery of Broadcast Television Services Over Existing Copper Loop
ATLANTA, Ga.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 8, 1998-- Newbridge Networks (TSE:NNC. - news; NYSE:NN - news) today introduced the newest member of its family of Affiliate companies. ImagicTV Inc., a software company located in New Brunswick, Canada, has developed a technology to deliver broadcast television services over existing copper telephone wires. The technology is being unveiled today at SUPERCOMM '98, the largest annual communications technology trade show in the world, being held in Atlanta, Georgia.
ImagicTV produces business application software, enabling service providers to deliver digital broadcast television to residential subscribers over high-speed Internet Protocol (IP) networks. ImagicTV's solution combines quick access to Internet services, including web surfing and e-mail, with broadcast TV, and such enhanced features as 'click and view' and pay-per-view programming. ImagicTV is uniquely positioned to enable telecommunications and Internet service providers to reinforce their growth strategy to broadband multimedia, while leveraging their existing investments in business systems, processes, people and network infrastructure.

Through an electronic program interface, ImagicTV's integrated solution uses IP Multicasting, asynchronous transfer mode (ATM), MPEG (Motion Picture Expert Group) and DSL technologies to enable home access to television and Internet content, through a television set-top box or personal computer. Residential customers who subscribe to the service will receive an extensive channel selection, and digital quality picture and sound. Customers can add or change channels instantly, at their convenience, eliminating bothersome service visits. The personalized electronic program interface also provides residential customers with useful information about programs and content.
