Mark, re Merced being less likely to replace Alpha because it's been pushed out:

Can you tell me, of these companies, which have plans to develop servers based on Merced (still), and which have plans to develop around Alpha?: HP, IBM, CPQ, Dell, Fujitsu, Sequent, Unisys, Bull. Even Sun Micro is going to bring up Solaris on Merced.

Mark - Re: "The longer it gets pushed out, the less likely it is to replace Alpha as the high performance alternative to the x86 line for NT workstations. "

Let's just watch how many Alpha chips Intel will be making for DEC and how many machines DEC sells over the next year or two.

Funny - Intel will be making a little profit on many of those same Alpha chips!
