Yesterday (Tues) evening, I spent a lot of time combing SI and other discussion groups; looking at charts, analyst recommendations and so on... According to the analysts, TXN remains a buy... The charts seem to suggest that there is still good short term upside potential (momentum?. A number of posters on other threads in SI and elsewhere, seem to think that TXN is poised to fall. Found at least three different people discussing likelihood of double bottoms and so on. These folks seem to think that TXN will drop to @40 - and soon. Here are my very humble thoughts. I'm still bullish overall because competition, Asia, and the rest notwithstanding, the DSP story seems to be playing out as those of us who are long would want. On a shorter term basis, I'm of the impression that TXN will go up more than it will go down, but I want to have some fun along the way. So in addition to core holdings, I currently have some calls & I'm watching the charts. Intend to ride with the calls until I think I see a reversal & will then sell. Then buy again on dips, etc. The risk here is that if I sell when I should have held (or buy when I should have been on the sidelines) then value of holdings will suffer. I'm using the time value of LEAPs as a safety net to mitigate risk. In the interest of stimulating discussion: 1. Who here believes the DSP story is wearing thin? (anybody? why?) 2. Most analysts believe TXN to be a buy-strong buy. Who disagrees? 3. Earnings are coming up. Current full year forecast by the analysts is for TXN to hit $2.11 and a little over $3 per share. Thoughts? 4. Re. Momentum: Seems to be a lot of sector rotation going on these days; including in the last couple of days, the entire tech sector up while the market as a whole is flat... Witness yesterday. How will sector rotation either help or hinder TXN in the next few weeks? 5. The traditional summer slump in technology. Didn't happen last year. What do you think will happen this year and why? 6. Where is short term upside resistance with TXN? Certainly, there are a number of other factors including the MU/TXN play, unrecognized developments in asia, and so on, but I for one would certainly appreciate hearing other comments... Thanks.
