Mitch and All:

Got a question ! John asked the question on the NIAR thread about why they needed the W-9.

I have a couple of stocks that I bought strictly for the dividends and to be put into will for the Grandkids. I don't trade this stock and the certificates are in my safety deposit box at the bank.

Yesterday I received stock certificates that resulted in a 2 for 1 split. I didn't have to send them a signed W-9 form for this. It stated in a letter that it would not be reported to the IRS because there was not cost on these certificates.

Would this not be the same????

Regards,

Ken
