Thanks for the data on major shareholders. Quicksource shows that there are 2,464,072,000 shares outstanding, so the big guys own:

Gates: 21.5%; Balmer: 9.7%; Allen: 6.7% of a company with a $211B market cap!

Wow.

Hi Ed,
I've got a little story:

>RAIKES JEFFREY S 2,185,292 12/19/97 0.10 V <<

Raikes is the part-owner of the Mariners. It was quite amusing when, just before the election regarding the new baseball stadium, an article appeared in the Micronews (MSFT's internal weekly paper) imploring the troops to vote for the thing..."it will only cost you $7 a year."

The "$7 a year" was a figure thrown around by the sports radio station here in town. I actually did the math and the thing was going to cost me (as an MSFT employee) about $25 a year.

It's funny how these guys get away with this stuff... the election failed but the state politicians rammed the stadium down our throats anyway... so much for democracy.

Allen pulled a bit of chicanery as well in getting the football deal... such "heroes" and "stewards of the public good," right?

<guffaw>
