TI / ADSL good news:

TI Announces Customer Relationship with Siemens Telecom Networks for Its ADSL Chipset

Business Editors & High Tech Writers

DALLAS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 9, 1998--

Industry's First Multi-line Architecture Will Speed
Deployment of High-Speed Internet Connectivity

Texas Instruments (TI) (NYSE:TXN)
announced today that Siemens Telecom
Networks will use the TNETD2000
ADSL chipset in its new line of Access
Networks equipment.
The XpressLink system, which
operates as a digital subscriber line
access multiplier (DSLAM), will take
advantage of the chipset's
fully-programmable feature, allowing
software upgradability in the field to
accommodate new standards, technology
advances, and interoperability. Although
the initial XpressLink product will be
DMT-based, T1.413 issue 2 compliant,
software downloads for G.lite and G.dmt
will be available once standards have
been finalized.
"After significant evaluation, we
concluded that TI's ADSL chipset
delivered the programmable, scalable and
extensible features we needed to meet the
demands of consumers and service
providers alike," said Ed Ely, vice
president -- Access Networks business
unit, for Siemens Telecom Networks.
"These features will provide consumers,
service providers and
telecommunications end equipment
manufacturers the assurance that their
equipment will remain
standards-compliant and interoperable
with complementary equipment for the
long term."
"The relationship between Siemens
and Texas Instruments has produced
leading edge products for many years,"
said Bill Eversole, director of marketing
for TI's Broadband Access Group. "This
engagement strengthens our relationship
and brings the world closer to realizing
high-speed Internet connectivity."
TI's ADSL chipset leverages the
TMS320C6000 core ADSL transceiver.
Supporting two lines per chipset today,
TI's ADSL chipset architecture will create
products that support more lines in the
future, enabling service providers to meet
growing market demands efficiently and
economically. In addition, the chipset
draws upon TI's leadership in mixed
signal products to provide powerful
codec and front-end components.
Finally, Amati Communications software
technology has been implemented on this
chipset, delivering a DMT-based
compliant T1.413 issue 2 solution.
