All... Small Cablespan contract... Tekstar Selects Tellabs' CABLESPAN System for Integrated Cable Telephony And Data Services PR Newswire - June 09, 1998 12:44 TLAB %TLS V%PRN P%PRN LISLE, Ill., June 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Tellabs (Nasdaq: TLAB) announced today that Tekstar Cablevision, Inc., a regional cable operator in Minnesota, USA, has selected the CABLESPAN(R) 2300 universal telephony distribution system for commercial deployment of integrated telephone and data services over its hybrid fiber/coax cable network. Using the CABLESPAN system, Tekstar plans to offer integrated delivery of telephone and high speed IP data for access to the Internet and on-line services throughout its eight-county service area. The selection of the Tellabs solution was based on Tellabs' ability to provide a common HFC broadband platform capable of delivering a broad spectrum of revenue-generating services such as POTS, CENTREX and high speed IP data. The CABLESPAN system facilitates the delivery of such services over HFC networks through a complete, scalable family of access units designed to cost-effectively serve single family homes, shared tenant/multiple dwelling units and business locations. With the introduction of the EXPRESS/path(TM) feature, the CABLESPAN system provides direct high-speed data connectivity to serve a host of applications, including residential access to the Internet, small office/home office (SOHO), corporate Intranet connectivity, and remote office/branch office (ROBO). Tekstar will begin to deploy cable telephony services later this year in its Battle Lake and Henning franchise locations, with deployment of high-speed data services expected to occur early in 1999. Tekstar intends to use the CABLESPAN system in competitive overbuilds to augment its cable entertainment with cable telephony and data services. It will offer these new services to existing customers in its current market area while also marketing to new customers in other planned locations. "Our customers are excited at the prospect of having a choice of service provider for local telephone and data services," said David Pratt, general manager of Tekstar. "We believe the CABLESPAN system and the EXPRESS/path offering from Tellabs provide us with the most cost-effective and complete solution available today to meet our business and service growth requirements." "We are pleased to be working with Tekstar on this opportunity," said Tim Fritzley, vice president of the Tellabs Broadband Media Group. "Tekstar's decision to deliver telecommunication services over its HFC network signifies the growing acceptance and broader appeal of this type of solution in general, and the CABLESPAN system in particular, to a new tier of cable operator."
