The cartridge makes a big difference. Old scratched
records don't sound good with new expensive good cartridges.
Hopefully the turntable has a cartridge head that pops off
so you can easily switch cartridges. My last turntable,
a Thorens, had this feature. Dennon makes good stuff it
probably will. I forgot the model numbers look ago but
the mid price Stantons, if they're still in business,
used to be good for old records. Radio stations used
to use them.
