High-Tech, I would agree that July 16th would be their normal time to report since they usually announce the day before options expire (as a general rule).

Integrated Hardware/Software/Services Solution Lowers Costs, Improves Reliability for ISPs

Lucent Technologies and Sun Microsystems, Inc. today announced a global alliance that will provide a pre-packaged suite of networking products and services designed specifically for Internet Service Providers (ISPs) and other network providers. This approach, called an ISP bundle, provides ISPs a single point of contact and enables them to offer new applications and services such as Internet telephony, Internet access, security, messaging and application-hosting more quickly and cost effectively.
Available to ISPs around the world immediately and distributed through Lucent's worldwide sales channel, the ISP bundle is comprised of a choice of highly reliable and scalable products in four categories, including network infrastructure products from Lucent and application-hosting products from Sun. Lucent NetCare Services will offer technology consulting, design and architecture planning, network security, installation, integration services, project management, engineering services and fault management, configuration recovery and performance management.
"The ISP bundle is designed to reduce the complexity of delivering services," said Carly Fiorina, president of Lucent Technologies Global Service Provider business. "By combining Lucent's leadership in building carrier-class networking products with Sun's suite of fault-tolerant, highly-available (HA) and NEBS-compliant servers in the ISP bundle, ISPs finally have a range of pre-packaged, cost-effective options that enable subscribers to access the Internet at breakthrough speeds using some of the most reliable and affordable technologies in the market."
"For Sun, a company that has been a leader in the ISP market for several years, this alliance represents our ongoing commitment of simplifying the process for buying, installing, and maintaining end-to-end solutions for our customers and is also an important milestone in expanding the company's reach to new carrier-class telcos," said Masood Jabbar, president of Sun Microsystems Computer Systems. "ISPs that are just getting started and need a world class platform on which to build their business on are ideal candidates for the Lucent and Sun ISP bundle, as are ISPs that have hit-the-wall with current solutions and need to rapidly boost service levels. Valuable ISP personnel should be focused on building the business through new value-added services, not on integration efforts, maintenance, and dealing with multiple technology vendors."
The ISP Bundle
The ISP bundle is configured and priced on an individual basis to meet specific service provider needs. The operations and management of these elements are all supported by Sun(TM) Enterprise Servers and Sun(TM) Ultra(TM) Workstations. The specific components are:
- Service Provisioning - a critical piece of the value chain where an ISP can differentiate its services. Billing, virtual private network services, customer network management, call centers and outsourced E-mail services are all key elements in customer acquisition and retention. Sun's high-performance and secure Solaris(TM) operating environment and servers are also critical, with a special emphasis on the Sun Web(TM) Server and its extensive JAVA(TM) API. Over the long-term, Sun and Lucent will be involved in joint development projects for new services and Java applications.
- Network Access - a set of high speed, highly reliable and low cost IP-based access products at the edge of the ISP's network that provide dial-in/dial-out access to the Internet and the PSTN. Lucent's PathStar(TM) Access Server, PortMaster(TM) 3 or 4, PacketStar(TM) Internet Telephony Server for Service Providers (ITS-SP) and PacketStar Access Concentrators 60 and 120 are targeted to support new and existing access technologies (POTS, ISDN, xDSL, wireless, IP and ATM access). Other critical Lucent LAN/WAN products include Lucent's Multiservice Switch (MX 1000), PacketStar IP Switch, PacketStar ATM Core Switch and WaveStar(TM) Bandwidth Manager, and DACS II.
- Network Security - a secure set of products that provide access into backbone networks, including the Lucent Managed Firewall and ISDN Office Routers.
- Application Hosting -- is an area that that enables ISPs to expand their service portfolio and build their business. Key software in this area includes the Sun Solaris(TM) operating environment which operates as the foundation. In addition, a full range of integrated applications from Sun, such as Sun Internet Mail Server(TM) and Sun's Internet calendar server, news server and FTP server are available.
