Gregg - many comments on the battle over 3G have got me thinking that when we finally get some all-important announcement(s) regarding ERICY's W-CDMA vs. what should prevail, perhaps the most important area for Qualcomm management is so-called "spin control."

The news reports about Bob Hope's death being erroneously reported, (and wire services having "fill-in-the-blank" type news releases already drafted in advance of expected events) -- I think have some relevance to what Qualcomm should be preparing.

Given the choice (right now) between working on an even better ASIC chip, or drafting in advance good (instantaneous response) news releases for the post-big-3G-announcement period -- I have this bad feeling that QCOM's time would be better spent working on news releases.

Wall Street will probably interpret anything other than QCOM in, ERICY out as yet another reason to sell QCOM immediately. I hope QCOM's investor relations people realize how nice it would be if they had something like "ERICY's purported victory conclusively proves CDMA's superiority" (or whatever) ready at all times.

Jon.

Gregg,

Some of the things you're saying make a lot of sense even if you sometimes contradict yourself slightly. Certainly hanging on every word that drops from the sky can be counterproductive, and our virtual discussions can veer off into virtual reality and retain little connection to the murky real world.

You're contradicting yourself a little though when you say simultaneously that CDMAone will not be stranded no matter what happens, which I actually agree with, and that Q should not "bastardize" is95 to comply with a standard of dubious merit, although this is perhaps merely rhetorical.

That's very interesting what you're saying about available spectrum..

I guess the way you've characterized your questions to Qualcomm outline pretty well the framework of a compromise.

Thanks
Dave
