Since the index funds have to take a position and the shorts might be getting nervous, I can't imagine they'll just walk up to the counter and plunk down immense $$ under public scrutiny. How do very large blocks get purchased without significantly influencing the price?

Well, one reason GSCO was probably selling everything in sight this morning is because they a) have clients who want to go long, b) want to go long themselves, or c) are selling the shares they already have to shorts. If a MM wants to shield his intentions, he will use a) an ECN, b) INCA (Instinet), c) trade directly with other MM's during slow market hours. The overbought condition at open is pretty typical; now we should find out if it has the "umph" to get past 50...the big thing is that even MM's can't move a fast market, with the exception of GSCO, who can do just about whatever he wants and get away with it.

S&P Futures are horizontal again, just like yesterday. The stock will have to move on it's own...
